Annual Report

2021 Annual Report

With thanks to our supporters, funders and program partners, we invite you to read OSA’s 2021 annual report (opens to PDF).

2021 Annual Report

Both our program and organizational investments expanded significantly this past year. We explored new strategies, engaged in social equity and management trainings, and enlarged our seed community through compelling regional, national, and international events, publications and programs.

Our supporters and funding partners sustained our work to deliver crop-specific guides for seed producers, mentorship and internship opportunities for student seed growers, and so much more.

The impacts and outcomes of our 2021 work were many; here are a few highlights:

  • Expanded online programming by growing our staff and developing a dedicated social networking and curriculum delivery platform, the Organic Seed Commons.
  • Engaged 70 partnering farmers and dozens of educators, advocates and translators to strive for programming that is diverse, equitable and rooted in farmers’ needs.
  • Connected with 5,325 participants in our educational programs, including seed growers from across the globe during the Organic World Congress Seed Ambassadors program, two days of international knowledge sharing and strategizing.
  • Advanced dozens of regionally resilient tomato varieties and identified 14 adapted for dry-farming in California.
  • Published a seed Policy Roadmap for the Pacific Northwest and hosted conversations about intellectual property rights as part of the Seed Patent Watch project.
  • Co-developed a National Organic Program (NOP) course to demystify how to source organic seed and comply with NOP rules

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the outcomes highlighted in this report. New to OSA? Learn more about our programs by signing up for announcements and newsletters here. To put your passion for seed to work for the future of food, please donate today.
