Port Townsend, WA – Organic Seed Alliance (OSA) will host its 5th annual Community Field Day and Tasting on September 30th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Chimacum, Washington.
OSA invites community members to celebrate the harvest season, learn about OSA’s cutting-edge research in the region and nationally, and taste appetizers of vegetables and grains produced on site and prepared by local chefs. The event will include a tour of OSA’s research farm, located at the Finnriver Farm & Cidery.
“Building an organic seed system here in the Pacific Northwest has enormous benefit for our environment, for farmers, and for the communities they feed,” says Cara Loriz, executive director of OSA. “Our annual field day is an opportunity for members of our community to see and taste firsthand the transformative work happening in their backyard.”
As part of this event, OSA staff will announce plans to build a new seed center to expand and professionalize its organic seed operations on site, and to provide local seed growers access to more equipment and educational opportunities.
OSA is a local, mission-driven organization delivering organic seed research, education, and advocacy programs with a national reach. The event is held at OSA’s research farm, which serves as the hub of its Pacific Northwest organic plant breeding projects and seed education. The event also allows OSA to celebrate its strong community of supporters in the region and beyond.
The field tour will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. with the variety tasting and seed-to-table showcase following from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. OSA is part of the Finnriver Farm Collaborative, a group of farmers and organizations that share ground, equipment, resources, and outreach opportunities at Finnriver Farm & Cidery, which will be open for no-host tastings and purchases during the event.
“Our work is made possible thanks to the generosity of our supporters,” Loriz adds. “Each year we host this event as one way to give back to our community in the form of education, celebration, and nourishing food.”
The event is free and open to the public. RSVPs are encouraged but not required. RSVP at this link. For more details, contact Executive Director Cara Loriz at (360) 385-7192 or cara@seedalliance.org.
