Upcoming Events in Washington

Our Washington-based research team is busy in the field this season and have a lot of updates to share about what we’re working on. We hope you’ll join us at our upcoming events described below!

August 5–6  |  Chimacum, Washington
On-Farm Plant Breeding and Variety Improvement Workshop

Learn how to develop new vegetable and other specialty crop varieties on your farm! Join the nationally renowned Northern Organic Vegetable Improvement Collaborative (NOVIC) breeding team for a two-day, hands-on training to learn the fundamentals of organic plant breeding and variety improvement

The training will include classroom and field-based instruction at Organic Seed Alliance’s Research Farm at Finnriver Farm & Cidery and Nash’s Organic Produce, and recommended reading materials. We’ll cover basic methods for breeding cross- and self-pollinated species and discuss crop specific breeding goals for organic systems.

September 30  |  Chimacum, Washington
OSA’s Community Field Day and Tasting

Give our work a taste and celebrate harvest season with us! Join OSA for our annual community field day and tasting at OSA’s Research Farm at Finnriver Farm & Cidery in Chimacum, Washington. The event celebrates the 5th annual harvest at our Washington research site, which serves as the hub of OSA’s Pacific Northwest organic plant breeding, seed education, and variety trial projects.

We’ll take a close look at OSA’s research in the field and taste varieties from current trials. Join us to celebrate harvest season and discuss the importance of regional seed systems and why increasing access to organic seed is important to farmers, the communities they feed, and the environment.
