Organic Seed Commons is Now Open!

Artwork by Carmen Kelly, California Dirt

A community of seed people. Sowing ideas, growing what’s good.

Organic Seed Commons is now open to anyone working in seed looking to meet more seed people! We can’t wait to see you there.

Organic Seed Commons (OSC) is a shared space where folks interested in seed can connect with colleagues and collaborators across the broad spectrum of seed work. On a micro level, members can use OSC to discover events, programs, opportunities, and potential project partners; to share information and ask questions; and to access resources and tools to support their businesses. On a macro level, OSC is a social ecosystem within which seed communities can evolve and grow through thousands of grassroots relationships that can blossom into larger movements.

About the Network

OSC was started in BETA form on Mighty Networks in February 2021 as a way to convene OSA’s Organic Seed Production Online Course, with the intention to eventually host the Organic Seed Growers Conference in 2022. During our BETA phase, we opened the space to those specifically attending an event or program within the space. After a year of growth and learning, we’re moving on to the next phase where all seed people are welcome! Submit your request to join using the button below!

Join Organic Seed Commons

Organic Seed Commons was developed in partnership with the Organic Seed Commons Advisory Committee, a group of volunteers that generously contribute their time to support the goals, mission, and functionality of OSC. All OSC members are asked to adhere to a set of Community Guidelines to promote safe and equitable access within the network.

Growing Community Together, One Conversation at a Time

Most of our members already participate in some kind of seed network, whether it’s a regional seed group, tribal organization, online or in-person educational setting, or breeding collaborative. Organic Seed Commons is a place where any and all of these networks can come together, and share across networks and overlapping niches.

This co-created space is constantly evolving to match our imaginations and needs. If you have ideas for what this space could be, please get in touch!

A vibrant community of seed growers always exploring what’s new, what’s necessary, and what’s possible in the world of organic seed.

Interested in hosting a group or program on Organic Seed Commons? Reach out to OSC Community Manager, Rebekah Korenowsky Woods, rebekah@seedalliance.org to get going.

How to Get Started

New Members: Sign Up and Request to Join
  • Go to organicseedcommons.org and click the orange “Request to Join” button.
  • Fill in your personal information and answers to the new member questionnaire, including agreeing to the Community Guidelines.
  • You’re in! Now you can browse the activity feed, read through the welcome and help docs, join a group or network, and RSVP for an upcoming event.
Already have an account?

Sign in using the “Sign in” button in the upper right hand corner of your screen (it’s easy to miss!)

Make Things Friendlier – Add Your Photo

Add a profile photo of your beautiful face! When we can’t be together in person, photos make a huge difference. Also, add your bio and a quick introduction for new people. You can do this by choosing Edit on your Profile.

Adjust Your Notifications

You decide whether and how much you want to be alerted about activity on the network. To adjust your notifications, click on your photo in the upper right hand corner, choose Your Settings, and click Notifications. Tweak accordingly. Same for sounds.

Post Thoughts, Photos, and Questions

When you click into the main box on the Home screen, you’ll get different options from adding a post to uploading a photo, embedding a video via a link, sharing a link or a file, or creating a poll. Polls are great for learning about how other members feel about something.

If you want to add a gif, do it by adding a photo. Organic Seed Commons doesn’t have a gif keyboard just quite yet.

Get the App on Your Phone

To get the iOS or Android app, go to Your Settings, and text yourself the app. Alternatively, download the Mighty Networks app from the Apple App or Google Play Stores, search for Organic Seed Commons, and sign in again (doesn’t work for secret Mighty Networks, but give it a try).

Have questions about the platform or need assistance? You can reach out to the Organic Seed Commons Help Desk, managed by OSA staff and OSC volunteers at helpdesk@seedalliance.org.

To support the Organic Seed Commons and ensure that this platform is accessible into the future, please consider making a donation in honor of OSC.
