Sign up by July 1 to Participate in an On-farm Carrot Trial

UPDATE JUNE 20, 2023 – Due to a large number of responses to participate in this trial, we are no longer accepting sign-ups. If you signed up you’ll receive a follow-up email from us in the coming week.

Let’s explore and celebrate carrot diversity together! Farmers, seed savers, and on-farm plant breeders are invited to collaborate in trialing orange and novel colored carrot varieties and populations including red, yellow, purple, and rainbow varieties.

This year’s variety trials are hosted in collaboration between the Carrot Improvement for Organic Agriculture (CIOA) and the Canadian Vegetable Improvement Collaborative (CANOVI) in order to offer a greater diversity of organically-bred carrot populations and foster knowledge exchange across the regions.

The goal of this trial is to test for quality and regional adaptation and inspire on-farm breeding and seed saving. Participants are invited to join the carrot breeding network in the Organic Seed Commons online seed community to share their experience and participate in on-going training opportunities and to learn about carrot history, seed saving, and on-farm breeding techniques.

This trial includes 7 orange and 6 novel color entries grown in single replication at your normal planting time. Evaluations will be coordinated through SeedLinked online platform with the option for offline evaluation if preferred. All trial participants who complete the evaluation will receive a $200 USD stipend.

Due to limited seed availability spaces are limited to 50 U.S. participants who sign up before July 1st.
