Take Action by June 9 to Support Organic Agriculture

Make your voice heard by this Friday, June 9th

The House Agriculture Committee is asking for public feedback about the 2023 Farm Bill through Friday, June 9th. This is an important opportunity for you to share with the Committee that you want them to provide support for organic farming in the next Farm Bill.

Our partners at National Organic Coalition have put together the action alert and resources below to support this effort.

Messaging for the House Agriculture Committee

The House Agriculture Committee should:

  1. Include the Opportunities in Organic Act in the Farm Bill. Right now, becoming organic and staying organic is hard for seasoned farmers, not to mention new ones. The bill would support more farmers in our region and around the country by making certification more affordable, providing flexible funding and resources to help farmers go organic and stay organic, and ensure that organic food is accessible and affordable to more people in our community.
  2. Include the Strengthening Organic Agriculture Research Act (SOAR Act) in the Farm Bill. This bill provides continued, needed investments into organic agriculture research and market analysis. It will increase the resilience of U.S. agriculture, create economic opportunity for producers, and result in improved ecological vitality of the landscape.

Here are some tips for filling out the form:

Which programs included in the 2018 Farm Bill do you think are performing well? (please explain)*

Programs that support organic agriculture, including the National Organic Program, the Organic Certification Cost-Share Program, and organic research programs.

Which programs included in the 2018 Farm Bill do you think could be improved upon or should be reconsidered? (please explain)*

All programs should prioritize support for and access to organic agriculture, to maximize the benefits of our public investments.

Are there any new programs or ideas that you or the organization that you represent would like to see considered for the 2023 Farm Bill? (please explain)*

The House Agriculture Committee should:

Please include any additional information you feel is beneficial to your submission.

I would like Congress to make a bigger investment in organic agriculture in this Farm Bill. I choose organic because it protects my health, our environment, and our future. But organic hasn’t received the same level of public investments as other parts of agriculture in the past.
