Strengthening Our Roots with Two Returning Team Members

At OSA, our work with seed is constantly growing and evolving. That’s why we’re thrilled to welcome back two passionate faces who will help cultivate our work in exciting new directions.

Susana Cabrera-Mariz, Washington Research and Education Associate

Susana Cabrera-Mariz

We’re excited to welcome Susana Cabrera-Mariz as our new Research and Education Program Associate in Washington state. Susana’s academic background includes a master’s in anthropology from Iowa State University, exploring the intersection of seed, culture, and public education. Her journey alongside OSA spans several years, first as an attendee of the Organic Seed Growers Conference, then participating in OSA’s Seed Production course, and most recently shining as a field intern last summer. Complementing her history with OSA, Susana brings a decade of experience with seed and food access nonprofits and organic farming operations. She is dedicated to building a just food and seed system that supports cultural reclamation and sovereignty movements. Susana’s expertise and passion will elevate our research and education efforts.

Aba Kiser, Information and Events Associate

Aba Kiser

We’re also delighted that Aba Kiser (she/they) has joined us as our Information and Events Associate. Aba has spent over a decade developing sustainable agricultural initiatives and events across the Pacific Northwest, working with OSA as a Field Intern, grant collaborator and contractor before finally joining the team as an official staff member. Their diverse journey to this work includes regional value chain development, a dedication to culturally relevant frameworks, groundbreaking conferences like Cascadia Grains, and valuable support for our programs like the CA Seed Summit. Aba’s commitment to data equity and participatory frameworks earned recognition as Capital Press’ Western Innovator in 2020. Their creativity and systematic approach will support the growth and evolution of OSA’s events and information systems.

Aba and Susana are outstanding additions to our growing team. We’re excited for their perspectives and talents to strengthen our ever-expanding seed work. Please join us in giving them both a warm welcome!
