Culinary Breeding Network’s Variety Showcase + Winter Vegetable Sagra

We’re thrilled to be participating in the Culinary Breeding Network’s 2020-21 Variety Showcase, which will take the form of joint virtual programming February 22nd through February 26th, and features virtual video presentations and Q&A sessions featuring current projects focused on breeding for organic systems and considering culinary quality.

OSA’s Laurie McKenzie and Micaela Colley will be giving three presentations during the showcase – one focused on seed saving, another on plant breeding, and a third on the Carrot Improvement for Organic Agriculture (CIOA) project. More details to come. We hope you’ll tune-in to the throughout the season for the fantastic CNB lineup, and be sure to join us for these OSA features:

The Variety Showcase is happening in conjunction with the Winter Vegetable Sagra, taking place December 1st through March 18th. Sagra program content will focus on nine winter vegetables: Celeriac, Radicchio, Brussels Sprouts, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Collards, Winter Squash, Garlic and Purple Sprouting Broccoli. Presentations will explore plant histories, origins and domestication; medicinal, nutritional and culinary elements of species; farm visits; cooking demonstrations; art and folklore.

Cathleen McCluskey

Cathleen McCluskey is the Executive Director at Organic Seed Alliance. Her interdisciplinary research on the ways in which context influences the relationship between humans and seed helps guide the organization in further stewarding equitable, inclusive programs rooted in participatory methodologies and aimed at putting the power of seed in the hands of growers.
