Upper Midwest Seed Summit Agenda

October 17, 2019  |  The Goodman Center, Madison, WI

8:30 AM  Continental breakfast

9:00 AM  Welcome and introductions

9:35 AM   Presentation: Regional climate projections and climatic considerations for seed production

10:20 AM  Panel discussion: Valuing regional, organic and specialty seed

11:15 AM  Open space for lateral learning-  participants host conversations on topics of their choosing. Organizers will suggest topics based on responses to registration questions. Anyone may host or attend any conversation for as long as it  feels relevant. 

12:30 PM  Lunch catered by Working Class Catering

1:15 PM  Strategy session: Facilitated groups will work together to identify regional priorities for research, education, network development and/or collective action to strengthen the Upper Midwest seed system.

2:45 PM  Tour of strategy session results

3:15 PM  Variety tasting, seed swap, open space conversations continued

4:30 PM  Closing

5:30 PM  Drinks and dinner at Next Door Brewery

 

October 18, 2019  |  DC Smith Greenhouse, UW–Madison Campus

8:30 AM  Load in seed cleaning equipment for demonstration

9:00 AM  Light breakfast and coffee/tea

9:30 AM  Seed cleaning equipment demonstration and discussion

11:00 AM  Squash variety tasting with Seed to Kitchen Collaborative

11:45 AM  Demonstrate Winnow Wizard and/or belt thresher (walk to Dairy Forage Research Center for belt thresher)

12:30 PM  Adjourn (possibly head somewhere for lunch together)

In 2027, we will have separate In-person (March 26th & 27th) and Virtual (March 30th & 31st) components, providing an interactive agenda of workshops, demonstrations, farm tours, lightning talks, art, seed swaps, affinity spaces, keynote presentations, and of course – celebration!
