Farmers and other community members are invited to join Organic Seed Alliance for a vegetable field day that includes tastings.
Participants will learn about the Northern Organic Vegetable Improvement Collaborative (NOVIC) – an exciting project that joins researchers and organic farmers in northern states to address seed and plant breeding needs – and evaluate carrot and beet variety trials at Nash’s Organic Produce, a participating farm.
Organic Seed Alliance staff will discuss NOVIC projects in Jefferson and Clallum Counties that involve broccoli, corn, carrots, beets, and peas on nine local farms, including breeding objectives, variety trial results from 2010, and plans for 2011.
Nash’s Organic Produce is located at 1865 East Anderson Road in Sequim, Washington. The field day will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Participants are encouraged to bring raincoats and boots.
