NOSB to Host Fall Meeting in Sacramento

The NOSB meets twice a year to share recommendations and hear directly from the organic community

The National Organic Standards Board (NOSB) meets twice a year in a public forum to discuss and vote on proposals that aim to improve and clarify the organic regulations. The NOSB will host its first in-person meeting in three years in Sacramento, California, from October 25-27, 2022. The meeting agenda is here and documents that are up for discussion are here.

On Wednesday, October 26, 2022, the Materials Subcommittee will give an update on the topic of excluded methods. The board has been working for years to evaluate which plant breeding methods align or don’t align with the regulatory definition of excluded methods to provide clarity to organic plant breeders and seed growers. More background on the topic is in the board’s Spring 2022 proposal here.

If you’re attending the meeting in Oakland, don’t miss the National Organic Coalition’s Pre-NOSB Meeting on October 24. Check out the agenda and register to save your seat by October 19.

Your input is essential to the public policy making process, and helps to strengthen organic policy. Learn more about the meeting and how to submit written comments by the September 29, 2022, deadline here. Questions? Contact OSA’s Advocacy Director.
