After three meaningful years with Organic Seed Alliance, I’m writing to share that I’ll be transitioning to a new opportunity and stepping away from my role as Assistant Director of Outreach: Communications.
My journey with OSA has been one of growth and meaningful impact. I began as a field intern, eager to learn and contribute to putting the power of seed into the hands of growers. From there, I had the privilege of serving as California Field Assistant, then Communications and Outreach Associate, and finally as Assistant Director of Outreach: Communications.
Each position has taught me something valuable—from the hands-on fieldwork that deepened my understanding of the challenges facing organic seed systems, to developing communication strategies that help connect growers working with seed to our programs and to one another. I’ve been continually inspired by the dedication of my colleagues and OSA’s commitment to building networks that span cultures, geographies, and growing communities.
Some of the work I’m most proud of includes creating the art and design materials for the 2025 Organic Seed Growers Conference, playing a big role in organizing and holding space at the California Seed Summits, and connecting with seed community from California to Italy (at Terra Madre) and France (at the “Sow your Resistance” International Farmer Seeds Gathering). These experiences were unique opportunities for relationship building and network development, and showed me firsthand how seed truly does grow an equitable, abundant and resilient future of food.
One memory that will always stay with me is having Stephen Gliessman sign my Agroecology textbook at an event where I gave a presentation on OSA’s dryfarm research. He wrote a message in the book that I found deeply inspiring: “The seeds of the future are in your hands. Keep up this important work.” Those words feel especially meaningful as I transition to my new chapter.
While I’m excited about this next chapter in my career, saying goodbye to such an incredible team and organization is bittersweet. I’m confident that OSA will continue to thrive and make the critical impact our world needs.
Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey—your mentorship, collaboration, and friendship have meant the world to me. I look forward to cheering on OSA’s continued success from afar and know our paths will cross again in the future. While I won’t be working with OSA anymore, I certainly plan to continue this important work and remain active in the seed community—because we’re all connected by seed.
With gratitude and best wishes,
Jasmine
