Art Gallery: Collaboration with Against the Grain Farms

This gallery features a collaboration between Nicaraguan artists and Against the Grain Farms, showcasing the beauty of heritage beans as a means to bring awareness to importance of biodiversity in the seed supply. It was prepared for the 11th Organic Seed Growers Conference, February 4 – 11, 2022.

Victor Rubén Ojeda Salador
Blufields, Nicaragua
I am a fisherman, an artist in oil and acrylics. I live in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua with my wife and young son. I have been a natural artist since I was a boy. These paintings were completed in the nights when my imagination is fired. In the days I work in construction and fishing. Apart from painting in acrylics and oils I also make jewelry, sculpture and work in mixed media. I paint in the house, in the street, in commercial premises, and create personal and urban art and large murals. I enjoy growing plants from seed and have many different herbs and plants on the terrace outside my house. I sell my art in the street, I am a simple artist.

Fundación A. Jean Brugger was founded 21 years ago in San Juan del Sur Nicaragua with the mission of promoting education and opportunity for individuals, and sustainable development in the community. Nicaragua still has many family farmers raising crops in the traditional manner of their grandfathers. In 2021 FAJB submitted a project proposal to a potential grantor to support bean farmers in a rural community 30 kilometers south of San Juan del Sur. We are also interested in being part of a model farm project that would educate farmers in new methods of cultivation and contain test plots to demonstrate the techniques and varietals most suitable to the ecosystem of this region.
