2019 Annual Report

2019 Annual Report

As we issue this annual report, we are all witnessing the dramatic changes and uncertainty brought on by the coronavirus pandemic. OSA is able to face these challenges because of the strength granted to us by you, our partners, supporters, and funders. Thank you for believing in our mission, acting to advance it, and investing in our sustainability in 2019, a landmark year in so many ways. Highlights from our 2019 report include:

  • Succeeded in urging the National Organic Standards Board to approve policies that STRENGTHEN ORGANIC SEED USE
  • Evaluated over 200 NAMED VARIETIES and over 600 BREEDING LINES of cabbage, carrots, sweet corn, tomatoes, quinoa and other crops
  • Gratefully received a capital donation to develop a NEW SEED CENTER that will be the future home of our Northwest programs and operations
  • Partnered with 34 FARMERS, 12 UNIVERSITIES and 14 SEED COMPANIES on research trials and variety improvement projects in 16 STATES
  • Co-hosted the first-ever SOUTHEAST ORGANIC SEED SUMMIT and UPPER MIDWEST SEED SUMMIT
  • Delivered seed education, share resources, and advocated for strong policies during 37 EVENTS reaching 6,000 PEOPLE

All of these efforts support a sustainable food future built on a foundation of organic seed. Read many more highlights from 2019 below, and then join our efforts by signing up for organic seed updates or donating today.
