The 2025 Pacific Northwest Organic Seed Summit is currently sold out. To join the waiting list, please email Susana at susana@seedalliance.org.

Register below to join us for the Pacific Northwest Organic Seed Summit to network, exchange knowledge, and develop collective actions to build equitable, abundant, and resilient seed systems in the Pacific Northwest. This year’s Summit will be held in Portland, OR on December 6th.

The Summit is a gathering for Pacific Northwest-based specialty seed growers (vegetables, herbs, and flowers) to network, exchange knowledge, and develop collective actions to build sustainable, profitable, and resilient seed systems in the state.

Join us for lively discussions on seed production practices, breeding crops for sustainable food production, and seed business basics. We invite you to bring your passion for seed and join us to strengthen bonds across the Pacific Northwest seed community.

Speakers

Dr. Brigid Meints

Dr. Brigid Meints is an Assistant Professor of Practice and the Organic Grains and Pulses Extension Specialist with the OSU Center for Small Farms & Community Food Systems. She is interested in organic weed and pest management, breeding for organic systems, and working with growers to add a value-added small grain crop to their rotation. Additionally, her research focuses on breeding multi-use naked barley for organic systems and early maturing dry beans for western Oregon. She grew up in Corvallis, OR, and developed a love for plants at a young age. She earned a BA from Scripps College in Anthropology and Gender & Women’s Studies, but found her way back to plants after graduation when she began working for the barley breeding program at OSU. She earned her MS from OSU in Crop Science with a focus in Plant Breeding & Genetics and completed her PhD in Crop Science at Washington State University.

Dr. Lucas Nebert

Dr. Lucas Nebert is a sustainable agriculture researcher who specializes in climate adaptation, including dry farming, crop breeding, varietal selection, seed production, and seed quality. He is an Assistant Professor of Practice and Organic Seed and Planting Stock Specialist at the OSU Center for Resilient Agriculture and Food Systems (CRAFS). He also has managed the OSU Dry Farming Program and is the board president of the Corvallis-based Dry Farming Institute nonprofit. He earned an MS in Soil Quality at Wageningen University and a PhD at the University of Oregon Environmental Science, Studies, and Policy Program, specializing in the application of microbial ecology to agroecosystems. His postdoctoral work at OSU was dedicated to research, education, and extension around the practice of dry farming in the Pacific Northwest. He is passionate about the vital importance of agrobiodiversity, seeds, and collaborative breeding in fostering a more climate-resilient farm and food system
